Dr. Jan (Jeanette) E. Fiske, of Columbia, Maryland, died of an unexpected and sudden illness on March 7, 2008, at the age of 57. She was a clinical psychologist with offices in Glen Burnie and Clinton, Maryland.

Dr. Fiske was born in Syracuse, NY and spent her formative years in Marcellus, NY. She graduated Northeastern University, Boston, MA with a Bachelor of Arts degree in history. She later earned a Master of Science degree in Clinical Psychology from Loyola College, Baltimore, MD and a Doctorate in Clinical Psychology from Widener University, Chester, PA.

Dr. Fiske was a member of the American Psychological Association and the Maryland Psychological Association, where she was both a contributor to and served a term as editor of The Maryland Psychologist.

Dr. Fiske’s mother, Lorraine M. Fiske, predeceased her in 1994. She is survived by her father, Neil V. Fiske of Blossburg, PA; her brother Ronald N. Fiske of Fredericksburg, VA and his wife, Cynthia; her nephew Andrew L. Fiske of Fredericksburg, VA and her niece, Dr. Lauren C. Fiske of Chesterfield, VA.

Jan was loved and respected within a wide network of friends, patients, colleagues and acquaintances. She enjoyed the richness of a 40-year friendship with Helen Imbernino of Gaithersburg, MD who shared
her interest in exploring out-of-the way communities and antique shops.

She had the good fortune to be a friend and neighbor of Lenore and John Kohlman who shared her love for life and all animals. Other close friends include Wendy Hoffman of Owings Mills, Donna Butman of Vermont, the Very Reverend William Stafford of Tennessee and Gail Bleach of Silver Spring.

Jan will be missed by those who benefited from her deep friendship and generous spirit.

Donations may be made in her memory to the Virginia Theological Seminary, Alexandria, VA; Mid-Atlantic Border Collie Rescue, Chestertown, MD; or Rocky Mountain Elk Foundation in Montrose, PA.

A memorial service and celebration of Dr. Fiske’s life will be held on April 5th at 1:00 p.m. at Saint Peters Episcopal Church, 3695 Rogers Avenue, Ellicott City, MD 21043.
