Relinquishing your Dog to MidAtlantic Border Collie Rescue
Thank you for considering us for help with your Border Collie or Border Collie Mix. If you are reading this page, you are probably making the difficult decision to rehome your dog. Please let us help you. We hope to make this as easy as possible for you, your family, and your dog.
Alternatives to Consider before rehoming your Border Collie
Is it at all possible that we can help you find solutions that will allow you to keep your pet? This is usually the best scenario for both dog and family. We can’t guarantee miracles, but we do have extensive experience in dealing with a multitude of issues and can certainly offer suggestions and alternatives to giving up your dog.

Steps to Rehome Your Border Collie
- Contact Us
- Explain your situation
- Provide details about your dog (age, breed, health, behavior, photos)
- Ask about our intake process
- Gather Documentation
- Vaccination records
- Medical history
- Behavioral notes
- Registration papers (if applicable)
- Prepare Your Dog
- Ensure vaccinations are up-to-date
- Have your dog groomed
- Collect their favorite toys or blankets
- Relinquishment Process
- Fill out necessary paperwork
- Provide all relevant information about your dog
- Be honest about any behavioral or health issues
- Schedule an Appointment
- We only offer scheduled surrender appointments
- This allows us to prepare and assess your dog in a controlled environment
- Surrender Fee
- We charge minimum $1 surrender fee to create a legal transfer of ownership
- We will gratefully accept any additional donations that will help cover your dog’s care until adoption
- Saying Goodbye
- Spend quality time with your dog before the transfer
- Bring familiar items for comfort (crate, toys, food, bedding)
- Stay calm to minimize your dog’s distress
- If possible, leave family members at home
Our Commitment
- You will sign paperwork legally surrendering your dog to MABCR
- All incoming dogs spend time on the farm before being moved into foster or a new home
- We evaluate each dog’s health, personality, and behavior to ensure we find the perfect home for your dog
Care Provided
- We address all medical needs
- Dogs are thoroughly evaluated
- We provide spaying/neutering if needed
- Vaccinations are brought up to date
- Dogs are microchipped (ownership transferred to MABCR if already chipped)
- We treat any serious issues, dental problems, or other ailments
We treat every dog in our program as our own. We take pride in our work and prioritize your dog’s well-being throughout the rehoming process.
